Background

Prior to 1980, the process of land acquisition for development projects of the Federal Government was undertaken by the State Governments. However, the process took a long time and affected the planning and development of the projects undertaken by the Central Government. The Federal Government took the initiative to help state governments, especially on the process of land acquisition for Federal projects. The Special Mobile Unit (UKB) was then established on March 12, 1978, as requested by the Jawatankuasa Kemajuan Tadbiran Negara. In April 1994, the name of the unit was replaced to the Land Acquisition Unit (UPT) in accordance with the tasks and goals stipulated.
